Brothers Deli, a decades-old restaurant and a Wakefield staple, shuttered its doors this month after two years under new ownership.
The owners of the all-day, cafeteria-style restaurant made the announcement about the closure of Brothers Deli on Facebook on July 6.
“After nearly two years of pouring our hearts into Brothers Deli, we’ve made the very difficult decision to close our doors,” the post read. “This wasn’t what we had hoped for, and continuing on was no longer sustainable.”
The Wakefield Daily Item reported that in 2023 the restaurant’s current owners, PK Brothers Inc., bought Brothers Deli from Jimmy and Maria Assimakopoulos, who ran the eatery for 38 years before they retired from the business. During a Town Council meeting that year, board members called the restaurant an “institution” in Wakefield.
Brothers Deli was known for serving American and Greek food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, which customers with trays would grab along a cafeteria counter line.
