Cafeteria, once a popular daytime brunch spot on Newbury Street, appears to have permanently shuttered.
Boston.com confirmed that a “for lease” sign is posted at the empty restaurant, and its website is no longer in operation. A listing from Boston Realty Advisors also indicates that the 3,500-square-foot space, located at 279A Newbury St., is up for lease. The space features a garden level and parlor level.
Cafeteria did not respond to requests for comment from Boston.com.
With its spacious outdoor patio, Cafeteria offered outdoor dining after reopening in mid-June, serving a range of options, including honeynut squash risotto, burgers, carne asada tacos, Cajun fried chicken, and calamari.
Like every other Boston neighborhood, Back Bay businesses have struggled amid the pandemic. Whiskey’s, McGreevy’s, Pour House, and Lir all shuttered on Boylston Street, while restaurants like Bar Boulud and Post 390 also closed. Some of Cafeteria’s other Back Bay neighbors, like Grand Tour, Select Oyster Bar, and Summer Shack, have gone into hibernation.
