Famed NYC pastrami is coming to Cambridge this weekend
For one weekend only, you can head to Cambridge to try meat from a legendary New York City deli.
This summer, New York City’s iconic Katz’s Delicatessen will crisscross the country with its “Pass the Pastrami” series, in which celebrated chefs will create their own recipes using the deli’s signature pastrami.
First on the list: Boston chef Jamie Bissonnette and his critically acclaimed Central Square restaurant Little Donkey. Bissonnette will offer up Katz’s Pastrami Sopes with habanero salsa, cotija, and pepitas during Little Donkey’s brunch this Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for $13.
After this weekend, Bissonnette will “pass the pastrami” to chef Michael Schwartz of Harry’s Pizzeria in Miami, who will then pass it to chef Marc Vetri of Amis Trattoria in Philadelphia. More chefs and dates will be announced later this summer.
“We sell 15,000 pounds of pastrami every week, making it our most popular meat at the moment,” said Katz’s owner Jake Dell in a press release. “I’ve always enjoyed watching others put their own spin on the classics, so I can’t wait to see what these insanely talented chefs are going to come up with. … It’s a fun way for people in different cities to get a taste of what we do here at Katz’s, and to learn some cool new recipes that they can recreate at home through our shipping department.”
