Aquitaine in the South End has reopened after five months with a fresh look
The restaurant's renovations come with an updated menu, too.
After closing its doors back in February to undergo a complete overhaul of its interior, Aquitaine Bar à Vin Bistro reopened Tuesday at its flagship space on Tremont Street in the South End.
“You know how when you move into a new home they say don’t change anything until you’ve lived in it a while?” Aquitaine’s founder Seth Woods said back when the space temporarily closed. “Well, we’ve lived in this building for almost 19 years so we now know what Aquitaine needs.’’
The updated interior, spearheaded by design firm Hark + Osborne, is a modern take on a French bistro that includes French oak paneling, a refinished floor, and an 11-seat expanded bar area. A private dining space—which seats 20—is also part of the renovations, as well as a second restroom. A 14-person outdoor patio is on its way.

As promised upon closing back in February, Aquitaine’s revamp is paired with a fresh menu comprised of both new dishes (duck a l’orange), as well as updated favorites (steak frites).
Woods opened Aquitaine in the South End in 1998 and later partnered with Matt Burns and Jeffrey Gates to form the Aquitaine Group. They own Aquitaine, which has additional locations in Chestnut Hill and Dedham, as well as Metropolis, Cinquecento, Gaslight Brasserie, La Motta’s Italian Specialties, and Greenlight Cafe.
Aquitaine’s lunch hours are Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The restaurant serves dinner Sunday to Wednesday from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. and until 11 p.m. Thursday to Saturday, and brunch Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
