Taste of Somerville postponed due to weather
The annual food and drink festival in Davis Square will now be held Wednesday, June 15.
With so many new bars and restaurants constantly opening in Somerville, it can be hard for even the most enthusiastic foodie to keep up. Thanks to Taste of Somerville, you can sample some of the best food and drink the city has to offer all in one spot.
UPDATE: Due to forecasts of inclement weather, the 18th edition of the annual food and drink festival, which was originally scheduled to be held Wednesday, June 8 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at 50 Holland St., will now be held Wednesday, June 15 at the same time and location.
The event will feature more than 60 local restaurants, breweries, and wineries.
“For someone who’s interested in food and beverages in Somerville, you get to try a little bit of everything, all while being outside in Davis Square,” said Morgan Bigley, the General Manager of Highland Kitchen, who is organizing the event with the Somerville Chamber of Commerce. “Even as someone involved in the Somerville restaurant business, there’s still a few places I haven’t tried yet, so that will be exciting.”
One of the eateries Bigley hasn’t visited is Tasting Counter, which will be one of the featured restaurants in the VIP tent at the festival. The 20-seat establishment, located inside Somerville’s Aeronaut Brewery, won the 2015 Boston-area restaurant of the year award from The Boston Globe for its “thoughtful, inventive dishes that demonstrate creative and technical prowess.” VIP ticket-holders get access to signature cocktails (liquor won’t be available anywhere else in the festival) and food from Tasting Counter and other high-end restaurants to be announced soon.

The ocean trout, shallot, basil, fermented soybean, and orange blossom from Tasting Counter.
Tickets for the festival are available on the Taste of Somerville website and cost $50 for general admission, $15 for children 12 and under, and $75 if you want to swing for VIP access. Proceeds from the ticket sales will benefit Somerville CAN, a collaboration of 11 local organizations that work independently and in partnership to feed the hungry, train and educate vulnerable youth, improve health, and eliminate racism. Last year the event raised $50,000, and Bigley is hoping they will match or exceed that total this year.
“This is a fun event that gives back to the city,” Bigley said. “It’s a lot of work, but I love being part of it.”
