Barbara Lynch is bringing clambakes and swordfish kebabs to the Harbor Islands
In Barbara Lynch’s memoir, Out of Line: A Life of Playing with Fire, released earlier this month, the acclaimed Boston chef recounts the time she seriously inflated her resume and landed her first job as head chef on a ship that did nightly dinner-and-dancing cruises from Martha’s Vineyard to Nantucket. She wrote that she was terrified by her first dinner service experience aboard the Aegean Princess—and exhilarated by her success. The James Beard and Relais & Châteaux award-winning chef behind Menton, No. 9 Park, and B&G Oysters no longer needs to exaggerate her accomplishments—few chefs have as many. And now she can add another to the list, one that harkens back to her cruise ship days: In a partnership with Boston Harbor Cruises, dubbed Salt Water, Inc., Lynch is bringing her cuisine to the Harbor Islands. Salt Water will introduce Lynch’s dishes to the Boston Harbor Cruises private charter vessels and Harbor Islands fleet, and enhance food and beverage offerings on the Georges and Spectacle Islands and at the Boston Harbor Islands Welcome Center on the Rose Kennedy Greenway, according to a press release.Menus offerings on the boats will include a clambake; swordfish kabobs with onions, tomato, and chili aioli; and lobster roll sliders.

Lynch will “work closely” with Boston Harbor Cruises to “create signature events and exciting food experiences” for ship passengers and Harbor Islands visitors, according to the statement.
“I can’t think of a better way to highlight our mutual commitment to the community, Boston Harbor, and the city we love,” Lynch said in the statement.
Chef Stephen Oxaal will head Salt Water, Inc. The Barbara Lynch Gruppo veteran’s resume includes the popular Branch Line restaurant in Watertown and six years as the chef de cuisine at B&G Oysters.
April is going pretty well for Lynch, to say the least. In addition to marking the release of her memoir, Lynch was named one of Time’s 100 most influential people. Top Chef judge and host Padma Lakshmi wrote in her dedication that Lynch “creates opportunities for herself, even when it seems like they do not exist.”
