It’s a good time to be a Greater Boston diner in 2025, with exciting and diverse restaurant openings occurring all over the metro area.
Each week, Boston.com will highlight the restaurant openings worth knowing about across the Greater Boston region. Some spots will already be open, while others are set to debut soon or later this year. At least one featured restaurant will always be a bonus item — either a pop-up, a collaboration, or event at area restaurants.

Can’t get enough ube in your teas and desserts? Then this new Somerville spot is for you, with the purple yam showing up in lattes, milk teas, matcha, sweet rolls, and waffles. But the spot is also serving up Filipino snacks and comfort food, like lumpia and garlic fried rice.
Opening date: Kuya Jay’s had a soft opening Nov. 15, but as of Friday afternoon, the owners announced they were temporarily closed due to necessary city inspections. It isn’t immediately clear when the business will reopen.
415 Medford St., Somerville
From the Tenoch team comes a coffee shop in Medford Square, which had been in the works for several years. According to a Facebook post from Medford Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn, pictures of the new spot show rows of coffee bags and some pastries available. A menu has not yet been posted online.

The decades-old White Mountain Creamery, a staple of the Boston College community, is closing, but a Massachusetts-based ice cream chain is taking its place. Find classic flavors and a rotating list of seasonal ice cream like peanut butter banana fluff, Dubai chocolate, and turtle pecan pie.
Opening date: December 2025
19 Commonwealth Ave., Chestnut Hill
The owners of North End restaurant Giacomo’s opened another Hanover Street eatery, focusing this time on seafood. Lobster rolls (traditional, warm with butter, and lightly fried), signature dishes (grilled salmon, lobster mac n’ cheese, and seafood risotto), and fried seafood served in paper cones make up the menu.

Bring Friendsgiving to Bow Market, where its food vendors are making eccentric Thanksgiving-inspired specials. On the menu: sweet potato poutine at Saus, stuffing empanadas at Buenas, and more tasty Turkey Day treats.
