It’s a good time to be a Greater Boston diner in 2025, with exciting and diverse restaurant openings occurring all over the metro area.

Each week, Boston.com will highlight the restaurant openings worth knowing about across the Greater Boston region. Some spots will already be open, while others are set to debut soon or later this year. At least one featured restaurant will always be a bonus item — either a pop-up, a collaboration, or event at area restaurants.

What’s new in Greater Boston restaurant openings this week

District 7 Cafe

From District 7 Tavern’s Royal Smith comes a new coffeehouse bearing the same name, and it’s conveniently located right next door in Roxbury. The menu features a classic variety of coffee, teas, muffins, and other breakfast pastries. Smith also recently received one of the zip code-restricted all-alcohol licenses for the cafe, with plans to eventually serve alcohol during brunch service.

Darling

Central Square is finally getting a new tenant in the space that formerly housed the beloved Mary Chung restaurant. It’s Chinese-inspired craft cocktails — like the Common Trope, made with milk-washed vodka steeped with jasmine tea, acidified lychee, black rice sake, and cucumber — and a fun dim sum food menu of soy-braised duck feet, Hong Kong shrimp toast, and Dr. Pepper-braised pork ribs.

Opening date: July 16

458 Massachusetts Ave., Cambridge

Mike & Patty’s

Lexington residents no longer have to make the traffic-ridden trek to Newton or Somerville for one of Greater Boston’s best breakfast sammies. Expect the same classics — the Grilled Crack, Carolina Caviar, and Mission breakfast burrito, for example — that you’d find at Mike & Patty’s five other locations.
