Summer may be over, but that doesn’t mean ice cream season has ended. Especially if the ice cream is only one dollar.
Ice cream brand Van Leeuwen is opening a scoops storefront in the Seaport on Thursday, the company announced. To celebrate, the store said it will offer $1 scoops of ice cream on opening day from 11 a.m until 1 p.m. Guests will also have the chance to meet founder Ben Van Leeuwen, according to a press release from the company.
In addition, guests will be able to try a limited-edition flavor, a collaboration by Van Leeuwen and Flour Bakery, the release said. The brand said the new Lemon Meringue Pie Flavor will have a toasted meringue ice cream base, with white chocolate pie crust and lemon curd mixed in.
“We were thrilled to be approached by Van Leeuwen for an ice cream collaboration. Ice cream is one of my all time favorite foods so when they reached out I was over the moon. We have taken one of our iconic pastries, our mile high lemon meringue pie and together turned it into a rich creamy ice cream,” Joanne Chang, founder of Flour Bakery, said.
Van Leeuwen said the flavor will launch at the Seaport location on Thursday, and will be available at the Harvard Square location, which is opening this fall.
The French-style ice cream company began in New York City and currently has one Greater Boston location in Chestnut Hill. Their website said they have five locations planned to open soon in Boston, including the Seaport and Harvard Square locations.
“We are excited to bring Van Leeuwen to Boston, and to collab with one of the city’s best local pastry chefs to celebrate the Seaport scoop shop,” said Ben Van Leeuwen.
Ice cream lovers can visit the new store at 70 Pier 4 Boulevard, starting Sept. 26.
