The Federal, an upscale seafood and steak restaurant in Waltham, has closed its doors after seven years in business, according to a notice posted on its website.

The restaurant, which opened in 2018 at 74 Tower Rd. billed itself as a “seafood & chophouse,” serving oysters, crab cakes, chowder, filet, and shellfish towers.
In February, managing partner Richard Brackett told The Waltham Times he hoped a proposed development at 1265 Main St. — including a hotel and residences — would help bring more customers to the area.
In a message posted to its website, The Federal thanked customers for their support and said, “the current economy and ever increasing costs make it impossible to continue.” The restaurant added that its sister property, Stazione di Federal, will remain open and honor all outstanding gift cards.
