Fenway Johnnie’s has closed after eight years in business near Fenway Park, according to a Facebook post from the restaurant.

The post shared on Tuesday included a brief message to customers: “Sorry we’re closed… Thank you for 8 great years!”

The sports bar and event space was located at 96 Brookline Ave., just steps from Fenway Park. On its website, Fenway Johnnie’s describes itself with the slogan, “Great food. Great drinks. Great people.” Its menu included potato skins, burgers, fish and chips, steak tips, and a Fenway sausage.

The closure ends a run that began in 2018, when the team behind West End Johnnie’s announced plans for a Fenway location in the former Tilted Kilt space.

The announcement seemed to come as a surprise to many customers, with multiple commenters asking if it was an April Fools’ joke. Others shared memories of stopping in before Red Sox games, concerts, and Opening Day, calling Fenway Johnnie’s a longtime tradition and thanking the restaurant for the run.

One Facebook commenter wrote, “Congrats on a great run at Fenway Johnnie’s! Look forward to more shenanigans at West End Johnnie’s. The party never ends!”

West End Johnnie’s remains open at 138 Portland St.
