CeCarré brings a $48 gold-and-caviar-topped pizza to the Pru

For about half the price, CeCarré Pizza & Provisions also serves pizzas with ingredients like pepperoni, basil, french fries, and Gochujang.

Boston has a new pizzeria inside the Prudential Center shopping mall, CeCarré Pizza & Provisions, and on its opening menu: a nearly $50 gold-topped pizza.

The Roman-style pizzeria, which replaced the short-lived, Detroit-style Descendant Pizza, opened March 7 with a menu of more than a dozen crispy, airy, and oval-shaped specialty pies. CeCarré also offers focaccia sandwiches (similar to All’Antico Vinaio, the owner said), salads, arancini and other snacks, and several dessert options.

Most whole pies, about 20 inches long and cut into four large slices, ring up to $26, topped with the classics like basil and pepperoni, as well as some more creative options like kimchi and Gochujang or hot dogs and french fries on a Fenway-inspired ‘za. The pizzas are made in the Roman Pinsa style, kind of like a flatbread, and described as both light and crunchy.

Various food options at CeCarré.

Its cheapest and simplest pizza option — the CeCarré Classic, with mozzarella, pecorino, tomato sauce, parmigiano, basil, and oregano — is $22 for a full pie.

Then there’s La Zarina, which comes with an eye-popping $48 price tag. Guests can also order a half-size of this pizza for $24 or a slice for $12.

To be fair, the béchamel-based white pizza comes with edible, 23-karat gold and caviar. The rest of the toppings include mozzarella, pecorino, potatoes, gruyère, crème fraîche, and chives.

Owner Nina Patel told Boston.com over email that the addition of these toppings and others was part of their approach to bring a more elevated pizza menu to the Prudential Center. CeCarré is actually a rebranding, Patel said, who opened the Boston location of Descendant with her husband before the couple dissolved the franchise at the end of February. A week later, they opened CeCarré.

Pizza, like all things, has risen in cost. Other pizzerias opening around Boston are selling pies mostly over $20, some nearing or even over $30, depending on the type of pizza style and its toppings. For example, Gary’s Pizza, which debuted last year and also serves thick squares of Roman-style pizza, sells a full Wagyu meatball pizza for $49. Its other full pies sell for $42.

Descendant, a Toronto-based pizzeria that opened its first U.S. location in the Pru before closing a year later, sold 8-by-10-inch rectangular pan pizzas for up to $25, according to menus posted online. The chain’s owner told MassLive the shop isn’t leaving Greater Boston and is preparing to open a location on Revere Beach this year.

CeCarré is located at 800 Boylston St., inside the Pru and next to Cava, Saks, and Wagamama. Its hours are 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
