Comella’s, a family-run Massachusetts Italian chain, has closed its Melrose location after 13 years in business.
The restaurant, known for staples like fresh pasta, pizza, sauces, and classic entrees, closed on March 20. News of the closure first surfaced in a local private Facebook Group, and was later confirmed by MassLive Monday. Boston.com reached out for comment but didn’t hear back in time for publication.
A company spokesperson told MassLive the decision was made following operational and financial challenges specific to the location at 478A Main St.
“This was a franchisee-level decision following operational and financial challenges specific to that franchisee’s experience,” the spokesperson said.
The Melrose restaurant was independently owned and operated. “We remain committed to serving our customers and communities,” the spokesperson said.
Founded in 1988 by Gene Comella, the chain continues to operate locations in Belmont, Concord, Hingham, Natick, Needham, Wellesley, Newton, West Roxbury, Winchester, and Westwood.
