Amid the deluge of blizzard photos and videos shared from snowed-in New Englanders yesterday, one photo of a seemingly pancaked Barking Crab roof especially made the rounds on social media.
But it was fake, according to the Barking Crab team, who shared a real photo of a perfectly-intact roof atop the iconic seafood restaurant on their Instagram on Monday.

“Seriously, folks… that photo of us with a collapsed roof making the rounds is as AI as it gets,” the caption read. A spokesperson with the Barking Crab also confirmed that the photo was created using artificial intelligence, and the Seaport restaurant’s roof was still standing.
The photo, which showed a collapsed roof from piles of snow, gained traction when it made its way to Reddit, The Boston Globe reported. The post has since been removed, and the original poster told the publication they “didn’t question” the authenticity of the photo when they received it in a group chat.
In a separate Instagram post, the Barking Crab team said they remained closed Tuesday to clean up following the blizzard. Many businesses, schools, and roads remain closed as the region digs itself out of two to three feet of snow.
