After nearly five years as a neighborhood staple, The Pearl is closing its South Bay location.
The seafood restaurant will close its doors on Sunday, Jan. 25. Owner Mika Winder said in a release the decision comes as she shifts her focus to The Pearl’s Boston Landing location in Brighton, which opened last February.
“When you build something with purpose and authenticity, the people it’s meant for show up,” Winder said. “I’m going to miss the community we built and the bonds we formed with our tight-knit neighborhood since we opened.”
The popular Black-owned restaurant opened in Dorchester in 2021 and quickly became known as a gathering spot for fresh, seasonal seafood. The restaurant built a following for dishes like char-grilled oysters, lobster rolls, and seafood towers, along with cocktails and a raw bar.
Winder said many familiar faces will continue on at the Brighton location. Most of the South Bay staff, including executive chef Roshawn Drane, will move to Boston Landing, where the restaurant will continue to serve many of the same signature menu items.
“We were grateful for the opportunity to operate two thriving restaurants after opening our Boston Landing location,” Winder said. “As we approach our one-year anniversary, we’re looking forward to seeing those same familiar faces in Brighton and recreating the warmth, energy, and experience we first established in Dorchester.”
The Pearl’s South Bay location will host a final celebration on Thursday, Jan. 29 — details will be shared on the restaurant’s Instagram page in the coming days.
