Another day, another Massachusetts pizza restaurant review from Barstool owner and founder Dave Portnoy. This time, he’s at Pizzeria Rustico in Boston.

In recent days, he’s released reviews from Braintree Brewhouse in Braintree, Mike & Lenny’s in Walpole, Laced Pizza & Pub in Foxborough, and Eagle Brook Saloon in Norfolk. All four shops received a 7.5 out of 10 rating or above, which is relatively good in Portnoy’s list of reviews of over 1,000 pizza shops.

However, Pizzeria Rustico fell short of its recent Mass. competitors, receiving an initial score of 6.7 out of 10.

“This guy’s working so hard, I really want to give him a good score,” Portnoy said before trying another bite, shrugging, and delivering the score. “It’s just too floppy.”

Portnoy explains his pizza, which he called “Flop City,” sat for about seven minutes before he was given it, which he thinks contributed to the unsatisfying texture. Many patrons on the street told Portnoy that “it’s usually better,” leading to an unexpected twist: the Barstool owner returned to give Pizzeria Rustico another chance.

“I’m turning into a nice guy, I don’t know,” Portnoy said. He said the man working at Pizzeria Rustico was “the nicest guy ever” and “working his a** off,” which is what led to him delivering a second chance.

Portnoy said the second pizza was far better than the first, and the second pie raised Pizzeria Rustico’s rating to a 7.3 out of 10.
