Free outdoor screening of Get Out at the MFA
In case you missed Jordan Peele’s horror movie satire when it first hit theaters in February, the Museum of Fine Arts is teaming up with the Roxbury International Film Festival for a free outdoor screening on the MFA lawn. The museum will have beer, wine, and snacks for purchase, but will also allow visitors to bring their own food and (non-alcoholic) beverages along with their lawn chairs and picnic blankets. The Halal Guys Grand Opening
The beloved New York City food cart chain will have its first full day of service on Friday, offering door prizes for a few lucky visitors to go along with its fast-casual Middle Eastern fare. (Friday, September 15 from 11 a.m. to 12 a.m.; 137 Stuart St., Boston; prices vary; all ages)
HarvestFest at Sam Adams
Heading into fall means kicking off pumpkin beer season, and Sam Adams will hold a release party for its Fat Jack Double Pumpkin Ale this Friday. 2017 Boston Freedom Rally
Known by some informally as Hempfest, the annual pro-cannabis rally on Boston Common is officially titled the Boston Freedom Rally, and is billed as the second-largest festival of its kind in the world by organizers. The three-day bash will feature two stages of musical performances, with highlights including Paul Wall and Baby Bash. Revere Beach Art Festival
Love art but hate the stuffy atmosphere of an art gallery? Get outside for the Revere Beach Art Festival, where 22 artists from the Greater Boston area will showcase and sell their works while also creating new pieces of artwork live for a chance to win cash prizes. Danehy Park Family Day
The City of Cambridge is putting families first at Danehy Park this Saturday, filling the 55-acre recreation facility with activities for the younger set. Highlights will include amusement park rides, arts and crafts, face painting, and live music. There will even be free hot dogs, chips, sodas, and T-shirts while supplies last. (Saturday, September 16 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Danehy Park, Cambridge; free; all ages)
Oktoberfest 2017 at Night Shift
Speaking of fall events, October still may be two weeks away, but Oktoberfest is starting early at Night Shift. The Everett brewery will transform its parking lot into a traditional German-style beer garden, with brass bands, food vendors, communal drinking tables, and lawn games to enjoy along with six German-style beers on tap. Roslindale Porch Fest
From Somerville to Arlington to Jamaica Plain, it seems like every town or neighborhood is throwing its own Porch Fest these days, and for good reason. What better way to bring a community together than an afternoon of free music emanating from every block? This weekend, Roslindale will get in on the fun, with 110 acts playing at 70 different locations throughout the neighborhood. Boston Hub on Wheels Citywide Ride
One of the biggest bike rides in Boston will take place this weekend, as riders depart from City Hall Plaza for either a 40-mile ride or a family-friendly 10-mile ride along a car-free Storrow Drive. Both rides loop back to City Hall, where burritos from Boloco, a beer garden, and live music will await triumphant cyclists. The registration fee will benefit the Boston Children’s Hospital’s Pediatric Cancer unit. (Sunday, September 17 at 8 a.m.; City Hall Plaza, Boston; $50; all ages)
Boston Local Food Festival
The Rose Kennedy Greenway will transform into a giant local and sustainable food hub this Sunday. Farmers, restaurants, food trucks, specialty food producers, and organizations focusing on healthy food and fitness from all across New England will be on hand to share their knowledge and their food. The fest will also feature chef demos, a seafood cooking competition, musical performances, and a number of family-friendly activities.
