Actress Mindy Kaling hasn’t been shy about her love/hate relationship with food and cooking, chronicling her culinary adventures (and misadventures) on Instagram and Twitter. But the Cambridge native is about to get a crash course in the kitchen from a famous chef.Kaling will be the first celebrity guest on Food Network’s new show Star Plates, which premieres Tuesday, September 27 at 11 p.m. According to a press release, each episode of the show will feature a celebrity such as Kaling — Erin Andrews, Colin Hanks, and Minka Kelly are also set to make appearances — paired with a famous chef to learn how to prepare their favorite meals and help service a full dining room during a dinner rush.Star Plates allows viewers to go backstage at some of the top restaurants, as these actors and television personalities get a taste of what it is like to be a professional chef,” Didi O’Hearn, Senior Vice President Programming, Food Network & Cooking Channel, said in the release. “The stars might be used to on-screen drama, but it does not compare to the reality and fast pace of a professional kitchen.”Kaling will be paired with celebrity chef Marcus Samuelsson, who was given the James Beard Award for best chef in New York in 2003 and has visited the White House to cook for dignitaries including the Indian Prime Minister and President Obama.Until then, Kaling will keep posting her food photos to Instagram and cooking her way through every recipe in Chrissy Teigen’s new cookbook.
