2025 fall TV preview: Your guide to new and returning shows
A full 2025 fall TV preview, including a complete list of premiere dates for shows like "Stranger Things," "Only Murders in the Building," and "Tracker."
In 2024, the fall TV calendar looked normal for the first time in years, after the disruptions caused by the pandemic and the dual WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Looking at the list of 2025 fall TV premiere dates, normalcy remains the keyword, though it’s more of a “new normal” than what the television landscape has looked like historically.
Gone are the days when the big networks (ABC, CBS, NBC, and Fox) offered a full slate of scripted programming seven nights a week. This year, new time slots for both the NFL and NBA (and the requisite pregame shows) have taken space previously occupied by original dramas and comedies.

“Original” doesn’t really reflect what we’re seeing with this fall’s lineup either. “Iterative” might be a better word.
FALL TV NEWS
We’ve already grown used to a surfeit of “Law & Order,” “NCIS,” “9-1-1,” and “Chicago” spinoffs, but 2025 has given us side projects to shows we’ve barely heard of. “Fire Country,” the modestly successful CBS procedural, has begat “Sheriff Country.” And a CBS show about adopting shelter dogs (“Lucky Dogs”) earned itself an Aussie edition (“Lucky Dogs: Down Under”).
It’s no coincidence that CBS has come down with an acute case of spinoff-itis: The merger of parent company Paramount and Skydance has led to cost-cutting in many forms, from the major (canceling Stephen Colbert’s late-night show) to the minor (shooting all but a few scenes of Donnie Wahlberg’s “Blue Bloods” spinoff “Boston Blue” in Toronto instead of Boston).

It’s not all doom and gloom in the fall TV landscape, however. There are plenty of popular shows making their returns, including new seasons of ABC’s “Abbott Elementary” (Oct. 1), Apple TV’s “Loot” (Oct. 15), and the return of Netflix’s hit romcom “Nobody Wants This” (Nov. 23).
Speaking of the “new normal,” Netflix is continuing its recent trend of utilizing a trifurcated release strategy for the long-awaited fifth and final season of “Stranger Things,” rolling out new episodes when everyone is home for the holidays (Nov. 26, Dec. 25, and Dec. 31).
