Exciting news for “Parks and Recreation” fans: Burlington native Amy Poehler thinks the idea of a reunion show sounds “amazing.”
When Poehler and former “Parks” co-star Nick Offerman stopped by “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” for an episode that aired Thursday, the host asked Offerman about his wife, Megan Mullally, who plays brassy assistant Karen Walker on “Will and Grace.” The sitcom returned to NBC in 2017 after a 12-year hiatus. Once the subject of reboots and reunions came about, the topic quickly moved to “Parks and Rec,” which aired on NBC for seven seasons, from 2009 to 2015.
“We said that if Beyoncé will play the mayor, we’ll bring the show back,” Offerman joked about a potential “Parks and Rec” reunion. “This is Beyoncé Knowles.”
“The singer?” DeGeneres clarified in jest.
“Yeah, the singer, the entertainer,” Offerman said.
For her part, Poehler gave a more clear-cut response about bringing the Pawnee gang back together.
“I’ll speak for everybody and say we would all do it,” Poehler said. “I think we would all do it someday. It would be amazing.”
The prospect of a “Parks” reunion may still be a distant dream, but Poehler and Offerman will be back together on NBC quite soon. They’re the hosts and executive producers of a show called “Making It,” a crafting series that pits talented makers against one another in competition for a $100,000 prize.
Offerman himself is an accomplished woodworker in addition to being an actor. Poehler said she also has a very specialized skill that will help the show.
“You know, Ellen, you always need someone to hold things, you know what I mean?” Poehler said. “Like, ‘Hold on, I’m almost done, hold this,’ and I’m really good at that kind of stuff.”
“Making It” is set to debut on July 31.
