On Sunday’s episode of “Last Week Tonight,” John Oliver referenced a recent march against racism in Boston as he slammed the approach the United States has taken to the storage of nuclear waste.
Around the 11:45-mark of the segment, above, the host played a clip from a documentary that highlights what would happen if any of the nuclear storage sites in the northeast had a “Fukushima-like” accident or spill. The catastrophic results would “take away a lot of big cities,” according to the clip.
“That’s right, lots of big cities: New York, Hartford, Boston,” Oliver said.
“And that last one is a real shame because, as I understand it, they only just got un-racist yesterday,” Oliver added, as a photo from Saturday’s massive counter-protest and march in Boston appeared on-screen. “So at least they could get to enjoy their new life.”
