Michael Phelps couldn’t handle Jimmy Fallon spoofing Ryan Lochte at the VMAs
Here’s your new Phelps face.
This year, the MTV Video Music Awards — a spectacle of an awards ceremony most known for displays of ultimate triumph (Beyonce, every year) and serious awkwardness (Kanye West and Taylor Swift in 2009) — invited some familiar faces from the Rio Olympics to grace the stage.First, four of the Final Five gymnasts — Simone Biles, Laurie Hernandez, Madison Kocian, and Needham’s Aly Raisman (Gabby Douglas wasn’t present due to health concerns) — presented the award for Best Female Video to Beyonce. But it was perhaps Michael Phelps and “Ryan Lochte” (in the form of Jimmy Fallon) who stole the show.

Toward the end of the awards, when it was time for the last moonman of the night for Video of the Year, Jimmy Fallon hopped on stage dressed as the silver-haired Lochte to make jokes about his recent Rio robbery debacle by pretending to take credit for all five videos in the category.
Cameras quickly panned to Phelps, Lochte’s teammate, who seemed to enjoy the spoof more than anybody.
