Meet the two new ‘Survivor’ contestants with Massachusetts ties
Do either of them have what it takes to outwit, outplay, and outlast the competition?
With almost 500 episodes and 32 seasons under its belt, Survivor has been a near-constant on CBS, appealing to generations of viewers young and old. But for its upcoming season, the show will pit two generations against each other. The 33rd season of the reality show will have a tribe of millennials attempting to outwit, outplay, and outlast a tribe of Gen Xers, and each tribe will feature a contestant with Massachusetts ties. Dedham resident Bret LaBelle, 42, will be part of the Takali (Gen X) tribe, while Hannah Shapiro, 24, originally from Brookline, will compete with the Vanua (Millennial) tribe.LaBelle said on the show’s website that he’ll rely on his 18 years as a police officer to determine which contestants are lying to him.“I can read people like a book.” LaBelle said. “I will lead people without them knowing I’m leading them.”Shapiro said in her cast bio that she’s been watching the show since she was 14, when she and her friends would host viewing parties during which they would eat worms and dirt (gummy worms and Oreos) when the contestants were starving.“Simply stated, being a Survivor contestant has been a dream of mine forever,” Shapiro said. “Plus, I like the idea that 14-year-old me would find 24-year-old me cool.”Season 33 of the show is set to premiere Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 8 p.m. on CBS.
