Sunday’s Tony Awards, which are dedicated to the victims of the Orlando nightclub shooting, struck an especially emotional chord when Lin-Manuel Miranda took the stage to accept his award for Best Original Score for Hamilton.

As his acceptance speech, the creator of the wildly acclaimed musical recited a sonnet to the crowd that offered powerful words about the Orlando nightclub shooting, where 50 were killed and more than 50 were injured, that took place early Sunday morning.

“When senseless acts of tragedy remind us that nothing here is promised, not one day,” Miranda said. “This show is proof that history remembers / We live through times when hate and fear seem stronger / We rise and fall and light from dying embers remembrances that hope and love last forever / Love is love is love is love is love is love is love is love cannot be killed or swept aside.”
