For the first time since playing Joey Tribbiani in the Friends spinoff, Joey, Matt LeBlanc is returning to cable TV…to play a guy who is actually just like Joey.
CBS’s A Man with a Plan (formerly titled I’m Not Your Friend) is a comedy about a dad (LeBlanc) who becomes the stay-at-home parent of his three kids when his wife (The Office’s Jenna Fischer, who actually was just recast and won’t be in the series when it airs) goes back to work. He at first tries to play good cop with his kids (“Daddy fun times” is what he calls it), but it proves to be harder than it looks.
It could just be LeBlanc’s comedic timing, but in this trailer, LeBlanc’s character has an air about him that’s similar to Joey’s. He finds himself with other parents at a kindergarten parent meeting, talking to another dad about beer and guy stuff like Joey would. He plays Candy Crush. There’s even a moment when he catches a glimpse of himself in the mirror and gives himself a “How you doin’?” type of nod. So maybe this is the show that could fill our Joey Tribbiani void?
A Man with a Plan airs this fall on CBS.
