Watch this Mass. native nail her American Idol audition
The final season of American Idol premiered Wednesday night, and at least one of the contestants going to Hollywood hails from Massachusetts.
Sonika Vaid, 20, was born in Boston and grew up in Weston, where she still lives. Her audition aired Wednesday, where she impressed judges with a performance of Carrie Underwood’s “Look At Me.’’
“That was a perfect performance. I was totally engaged,’’ Harry Connick Jr. said of her performance, before the judges decided to send her to Hollywood. “This is one of the only times this particular season that I saw somebody that I actually think could win this thing.’’
In an interview with Fox 25 News, Vaid said that she’s been singing since she was 3 years old, and grew up performing at a park near her home for special events.
