SNL GIF Recap: Michael Keaton Goes From Boston to Batman

Michael Keaton reprised his role as Batman on Saturday Night Live...sort of. Screenshot

Michael Keaton gets around: He was just in Boston to shoot his new drama. He went to New York to host Saturday Night Live. And of course he took a side trip to Gotham.

Keaton and Mark Ruffalo visited The Boston Globe last week to shoot scenes for Spotlight, their new film about the Catholic Church abuse scandal, as The Globe reported. On Saturday’s SNL, Keaton begrudgingly played Batman with the cast, then shared his Easter basket a little early.

Carly Rae Jepsen was the musical guest. There were good jokes at Charles Barkley’s expense. And we put together this recap, with clips and animated GIFs, one of which lets you see Keaton transform into Batman again and again. Enjoy.

Why Is Charles Barkley Here?

The cold open featured some pretty good jokes about March Madness—including a few jabs at the NCAA when Duke announced star forward Jahlil Okafor would miss the championship game for a big biology test—but the best part was Keenan Thompson’s spot on Charles Barkley impression. This could have been the whole skit.

Also, no Reggie Miller? Come on, SNL. He’s been torturing us with his commentary for the whole tournament. Where’s the retribution?

Michael Keaton Is Still Batman

Watching Taran Killam and Bobby Moynihan try to get Michael Keaton to play Batman with them during the monologue was worth it for this moment:

Jebidiah Atkinson

Old-timey newspaper critic Jebidiah Atkinson doesn’t pull any punches ripping classic TV shows like Cheers, Seinfeld, and even SNL. The audience let out more gasps than laughs, but it was still great.

Happy Easter from Michael Keaton, everybody.

Hot Take, CNN

The sketch on CNN’s use of ridiculous live and graphical reenactments definitely could have been better, but this clip of a local performance art group on Indiana’s “religious freedom’’ laws is mesmerizing.
