NBC’s production of “The Sound of Music Live!’’ garnered an unprecedented 22 million viewers and a year later, the network is predicting tonight’s 8 p.m. broadcast of “Peter Pan Live!’’ will be the “most anticipated TV event of the year.’’

Allison Williams (“Girls’’) and Academy Award winner Christopher Walken (“The Deer Hunter’’) will take on the roles of Peter and Captain Hook in the Broadway production adapted for the small screen.

Oscar-nominated actress Minnie Driver (“Good Will Hunting’’) will play the adult version of Wendy Darling. She’ll also serve as the program’s narrator.

Not everyone is as optimistic about the production as the folks are at NBC. Sondra Lee, who played Tiger Lily in the 1954 original Broadway production and 1955 telecast (which drew 65 million viewers!), told the New York Post she “can’t bear’’ to watch the 2014 version.

“I wish them well, but I have such wonderful memories of ours, of Jerry Robbins, his dances, his mind, of Mary and the adorable Cyril,’’ Lee said in reference to director and choreographer Jerome Robbins, actress Mary Martin who played Peter Pan, and Cyril Ritchard who took on the role of Mr. Darling and Captain Hook.

Conversely, some Twitter users are only planning to watch it because they’re doubting it altogether.
