Twitter questions why Adam Levine can go shirtless at the Super Bowl after Janet Jackson’s wardrobe malfunction
"Super Bowl halftime nipple rules feel inconsistent," Katie Nolan tweeted.
At the beginning of the 2019 Super Bowl halftime show, Adam Levine was clad in layers. As the performance progressed, however, the Maroon 5 frontman shed clothing until — by the final moments of the show — he was shirtless.
For some, seeing Levine’s nipples onscreen raised questions about why this performance was considered decent, but a flash of Janet Jackson’s bare breast at the 2004 Super Bowl resulted in controversy, action from the Federal Communications Commission, and a blow to Jackson’s career.
Framingham native and TV personality Katie Nolan, actress Aisha Tyler, rapper Aminé, and others took to Twitter to share their thoughts during Super Bowl Sunday, or what some on the social media site have referred to as “Janet Jackson Appreciation Day.”
