’28 Years Later: The Bone Temple’ (2026)
Sony’s decision to release “28 Years Later: The Bone Temple” in theaters less than seven months after “28 Years Later” was (pardon the pun) a boneheaded move. Multiple people I talked to thought the Nia DaCosta-directed sequel — one of the best movies of 2026 so far — was a re-release of Danny Boyle’s 2025 film with a few minutes of extra footage, and the box office seemingly reflected that. Spike (Alfie Williams) has fallen in with a tracksuit-clad gang of Satanists, while Dr. Kelson (Ralph Fiennes) has begun experimenting with ways to neutralize the rage-inducing virus that animates the film’s infected zombies. Regardless of where this film ends up in the year-end rankings, a show-stopping scene from Fiennes (pictured above) will undoubtedly rank among the best on-screen moments of 2026.

‘Eeephus’ (2025)
Think you’ve already seen all of the best baseball movies under the sun? This Massachusetts-filmed movie has a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and features both Bill “Spaceman” Lee and Joe Castiglione, yet most Red Sox fans I’ve talked to haven’t seen it. One of my favorite movies of 2025, Carson Lund’s debut uses the final game of a beer-league team to ruminate on the passage of time, the importance of tradition, and the emotional constipation of New England men of a certain age.

‘The Testament of Ann Lee’ (2025)
Mona Fastvold’s “The Testament of Ann Lee” is unlike any other movie I saw in 2025. A musical of sorts, the film chronicles the life of Ann Lee (Amanda Seyfried), the Quaker who founds her own religious sect (the Shakers) characterized by their frenzied, ecstatic movements during marathon sessions of worship. Seyfried completely inhabits the lead role of the film, which is often more of an unending interpretive dance than a conventional biopic. (I mean that as a compliment.)

New TV Shows Streaming
‘Ken Burns Presents: Henry David Thoreau’ (2026)
Ken Burns is back with another documentary, this time teaming up with Eagles frontman Don Henley and focusing on everyone’s favorite transcendentalist and itinerant resident of Walden Pond. Much like his recent series on the American Revolution, Burns assembles some powerful voices to give life to his historic subjects, including Jeff Goldblum as Thoreau, Ted Danson as Ralph Waldo Emerson, Meryl Streep in multiple roles, and George Clooney providing narration.
How to watch: “Ken Burns Presents: Henry David Thoreau” is streaming on PBS.
‘Your Friends and Neighbors’ Season 2 (2026)
I will watch Jon Hamm in anything, including this Apple TV dark comedy. In Season 1, the “Mad Men” actor played Andrew Cooper, a yuppie who resorted to robbing his rich friends and neighbors to keep up appearances after being fired and getting divorced. This time around, James Marsden joins the fun as a new neighbor who is on to Cooper’s games and whose wealth stands out even in their well-heeled enclave.
