After another busy tourist season, Nantucket will remain in focus this fall thanks to “queen beach reads” Elin Hilderbrand.
Film crews will descend upon the island in mid-September to film “The Five Star Weekend,” the upcoming Peacock streaming series starring Jennifer Garner based on Hilderbrand’s novel of the same name.
According to the Nantucket Inquirer and Mirror, Nantucket’s Select Board is set to consider a filming proposal that would allow crews to shoot scenes all over the island from Sept. 10 to Oct. 2.
If approved, filming for the Peacock series would take place at well-known spots like Chicken Box and Bartlett’s Farm, and would supplement primary production in Los Angeles, where crews are building replicas of Nantucket and Wellesley homes on a soundstage.

According to an official plot synopsis for “The Five-Star Weekend,” Garner will play Hollis Shaw, “a famed food influencer known for her delicious recipes, impeccable taste, and warm demeanor.”
Facing intense personal turmoil after a devastating loss, Hollis retreats to her Nantucket home for a weekend, inviting a group of friends from various periods of her life: “Her childhood, her twenties, thirties, and one surprise fifth star.”
Along with Garner, the cast of “The Five-Star Weekend” will include Regina Hall (“Girls Trip”), Judy Greer (“13 Going on 30”), Gemma Chan (“Eternals”), D’Arcy Carden (“The Good Place”), Timothy Olyphant (“Justified”), David Denman (“The Office”), and Springfield native Chloë Sevigny (“American Psycho”).
Hilderbrand has sold millions of copies of her Nantucket-set beach reads, including “The Perfect Couple,” which was adapted into a 2024 Netflix series starring Nicole Kidman that was filmed on the Cape and Nantucket.
Along with “The Five-Star Weekend,” adaptations of Hilderbrand’s Nantucket-set “Swan Song” and “28 Summers” are also in various stages of development.
Hilderbrand told the Inquirer and Mirror that she believed filming on Nantucket for a few weeks rather than using the island for primary production — which typically takes anywhere from 3 to 6 months — was “the way to go.”
“They’re trying to get as many local businesses represented as possible, to stay true to the book and create authenticity,” Hilderbrand said. “What I hope is that, because I have other projects in development, any future series that gets greenlit will do the same. Not shoot the whole thing here, but come for a few weeks. I think that’s the way to go.”
