Fifteen years after playing a suburban couple in “Date Night,” Tina Fey and Acton native Steve Carell are teaming up again for the upcoming Netflix series “The Four Seasons.”
Based on the 1981 movie of the same name, “The Four Seasons” is a comedy/drama about six longtime friends (comprised of three couples) who take four yearly vacations together, one for each season.
While Fey and Carell have played a couple on screen before, they are partnered up with different actors this time around. Fey’s Kate is married to Jack (Will Forte, “Saturday Night Live”), Carell’s Nick has built a family with Anne (Kerri Kenney-Silver, “Reno 911!”), and Danny (Colman Domingo, “Rustin”) is paired up with Claude (Marco Calvani, “High Tide”).
When the couples meet up during the first of these quarterly trips, they discover that one of the couples is on the verge of divorce.
While Netflix doesn’t explicitly say in its official press synopsis which of the couples is splitting up, the first trailer for “The Four Seasons” features Carell’s Nick with a new, younger girlfriend (Erika Henningsen, “Girls5Eva”), heavily implying that he has split from Anne.
The show plays out over the course of the four vacations, with the remaining couples experiencing the unforeseen consequences a divorce can have on a group of longtime friends.
Fey co-created “The Four Seasons” with her “30 Rock” collaborators Lang Fisher and Tracey Wigfield, and her husband Jeff Richmond serves as an executive producer along with “30 Rock” producers David Miner and Eric Gurian.
In another “30 Rock” connection, the original “Four Seasons” film starred “30 Rock” guest actor Alan Alda in Forte’s role opposite Carol Burnett.
“The Four Seasons” will begin streaming on Netflix May 1.
