Following the success of Netflix’s Nantucket-set drama “The Perfect Couple,” Jennifer Garner is starring in a new limited series based on another Nantucket-set novel by “queen of beach reads” author Elin Hilderbrand.
Garner will play the lead role in “The Five Star Weekend,” a limited series in development for Peacock based on the 2023 novel of the same name by Hilderbrand.
According to an official plot synopsis for “The Five-Star Weekend,” Garner will play Hollis Shaw, “a famed food influencer known for her delicious recipes, impeccable taste, and warm demeanor.”
Facing intense personal turmoil after a devastating loss, Hollis retreats to her Nantucket home for a weekend, inviting a group of friends from various periods of her life: “Her childhood, her twenties, thirties, and one surprise fifth star.”
Hilderbrand told Boston.com she expected production to begin on “The Five-Star Weekend” this summer, with an aim to have the limited series released in spring or summer 2026.
Along with starring in “The Five-Star Weekend,” Garner will executive produce the series along with showrunner Bekah Brunstetter (“Maid,” “This Is Us”) and co-writer Beth Schacter (“Billions,” “Super Pumped”).

“The Perfect Couple,” which starred Nicole Kidman as a wealthy Nantucket novelist whose family is shaken by a grisly murder, was filmed on the Cape and Nantucket in 2023. The show received 52.9 million views in in its first three weeks of release in September 2024.
Along with “The Five-Star Weekend,” adaptations of Hilderbrand’s Nantucket-set novels “Swan Song” and “28 Summers” are also in various stages of development.
Hilderbrand, who has written 27 novels set on Nantucket, told Boston.com in a June 2024 interview that she was hopeful that “The Perfect Couple” would help put the island on the map for more Hollywood adaptations.
“[Kidman’s HBO series] ‘Big Little Lies’ changed the game, as far as taking women’s stories and making them into commercial properties on the screen,” Hilderband said. “As soon as that started winning awards, my phone started ringing. That’s when a lot of my stuff got optioned. What I’m hoping is that after ‘The Perfect Couple’ comes out, Nantucket and beach reads will then be considered fodder for Hollywood.”
