2025 Oscars: How to watch or stream all of the movies nominated

Before the Academy Awards on March 2, you can catch up on almost all of the 2025 Oscar-nominated movies, whether in theaters or on your favorite streaming platform.

The 2025 Oscars, hosted by funnyman Conan O’Brien, will air this Sunday at 7 p.m. on ABC. That means this is your final weekend to catch up on all of the best movies of 2024 before the Academy Awards winners are announced.

Musicals are front and center this year, with “Emilia Perez” (13 nominations) and “Wicked” (10 nominations) leading the charge. Music is also central to another of the most-nominated films, James Mangold’s Bob Dylan biopic “A Complete Unknown” (8 nominations).

Thanks to a number of controversies, the race for Best Picture has narrowed a bit, with Sean Baker’s “Anora” now seen as the frontrunner. But dramas like “Conclave” and “The Brutalist” aren’t far behind.

With the proliferation of so many different streaming services, you may be wondering how to watch the movies that landed 2025 Oscar nominations.

AWARDS SEASON NEWS

Unlike last year, many of the nominated films are currently only available as premium on-demand rentals, and can’t be seen on a subscription streaming service. And if you want to see all 10 Best Picture nominees, you’ll have to make at least one trip to the theater, for Walter Salles’ Brazilian drama “I’m Still Here.”

That said, since the nominees for the 2025 Oscars were announced in January, many of the movies in contention have moved over to widely popular streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, Max, Peacock, and Paramount+.

If you’re looking at pure dollar value, Netflix is leading the way for a second consecutive year, with seven nominated movies available on the platform.

Below you will find a full list of how to watch the movies nominated for the 2025 Oscars, whether it’s in theaters, an on-demand rental, or streaming on Netflix, Hulu, Max, Prime Video, or another streaming service.

How to Watch the 2025 Best Picture Nominees

“Anora”

Nomination(s): Best Picture, Best Actress (Mikey Madison), Best Supporting Actor (Yura Borisov), Best Director (Sean Baker), Best Original Screenplay, Best Film Editing

Mikey Madison’s stripper, Ani, thinks she’s landed her ticket to a better life when a young Russian oligarch named Ivan (Mark Eydelshteyn) catches feelings at the club. Their whirlwind romance is intoxicating to watch, but a looming visit from Ivan’s parents threatens their fairy tale. “Anora” is a romcom from the red light district, a slapstick comedy in stilettos, and a white-knuckle road movie that never leaves the confines of the Five Boroughs. Most of all, it’s a movie about an indefatigable spirit scrapping and hustling for money, power, and respect in a world designed to withhold all three.

How to watch: “Anora” is available to rent on several on-demand platforms.

“The Brutalist”

Nomination(s): Best Picture, Best Actor (Adrien Brody), Best Supporting Actor (Guy Pearce), Best Supporting Actress (Felicity Jones), Best Director (Brady Corbet), Best Original Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Production Design, Best Score

Brady Corbet’s 218-minute opus, about a fictional architect (Adrien Brody) who escaped the Nazis to begin a new life in America, is a towering work of art. Shot in Vistavision, Corbet’s $10 million movie looks like a $200 million one, and the filmmaker’s ambition is matched only by Brody’s Lazlo Toth, who begins work on almost impossibly large building for a rich Pennsylvania patron (Guy Pearce).

How to watch: “The Brutalist” is available to rent on several on-demand platforms.

“A Complete Unknown”

Nomination(s): Best Picture, Best Actor (Timothee Chalamet), Best Supporting Actor (Edward Norton), Best Supporting Actress (Monica Barbaro), Best Director (James Mangold), Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Costume Design, Best Sound

Timothee Chalamet is electric (pun very much intended) as Bob Dylan, firing off folk song classics in scene after scene and slouching his way through 1960s New York City with the weight of everyone’s expectations on his shoulders. The climactic electric Newport Folk Festival set — somewhat apocryphal in the details but emotionally true for dyed-in-the-wool folk music believers — leaves you sympathetic both to Dylan’s desire to chart his own path (i.e. go electric) and to fans for whom Dylan’s music offered stability in a tumultuous era.

How to watch: “A Complete Unknown” is available to rent on several on-demand platforms.

“Conclave”

Nomination(s): Best Picture, Best Actor (Ralph Fiennes), Best Supporting Actress (Isabella Rosselini), Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Costume Design, Best Film Editing, Best Production Design, Best Score

Amidst a personal crisis of faith, Cardinal Lawrence (Ralph Fiennes) is tasked with choosing the worldwide leader of the Catholic Church, mulling candidates for the gig that include his reform-minded pal (Stanley Tucci), a staunch traditionalist (Sergio Castellitto), and a Cardinal who is clearly playing backroom politics (John Lithgow). Even when “Conclave” strains credulity, it is anchored by Fiennes, who greets every new challenge and revelation with a pragmatism that borders on delusional.

“Dune Part Two”

Nomination(s): Best Picture, Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, Best Sound, Best Visual Effects

“Dune: Part Two” is a filmmaking triumph, masterfully adapting one of the most influential sci-fi novels of all time. It is a technical marvel, featuring some of the most beautiful camerawork of the year and a score from Hans Zimmer that will rattle your teeth. And it’s anchored by Timothee Chalamet, who has grown from the waifish prince Paul Atreides of “Dune” into a young man with enough strength and charisma for reasonably intelligent people to build a religion around.

“Emilia Perez”

Nomination(s): Best Picture, Best Actress (Karla Sofía Gascón), Best Supporting Actress (Zoe Saldaña), Best Director (Jacques Audiard), Best Adapted Screenplay, Best International Feature Film, Best Cinematography, Best Film Editing, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Best Score, Best Song, Best Sound

Jacques Audiard’s wildly ambitious “Emilia Perez” is a musical mashup of “Sicario” and “Mrs. Doubtfire” about a cartel boss named Manitas (Karla Sofía Gascón) who decides to transition into living as a woman. Years later, Manitas (now Emilia) encounters the lawyer she hired to handle the transition (Zoe Saldana) and the wife (Selena Gomez) and kids she left behind in her past life.

“I’m Still Here”

Nomination(s): Best Picture, Best Actress (Fernanda Torres), Best International Feature Film

“I’m Still Here” is a historical drama about Eunice Paiva (Fernanda Torres), the wife of a leftist congressman who was abducted during the country’s military dictatorship in 1971 and never returned. Eunice’s decision to stay and raise her family with a steely smile — despite consistent pressure from the powers-that-be — is her own resistance.

How to watch: “I’m Still Here” is exclusively in theaters.

“Nickel Boys”

Nomination(s): Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay

Watching “Nickel Boys” is like learning a new film language. The story of two young men (Ethan Herisse and Brandon Wilson) at an abusive 1950s reform school in the Jim Crow South, is shot entirely from their point of view. We see only what they see, and as a result, feel what they feel. While it earned two nods (Best Picture, Adapted Screenplay), RaMell Ross’s film also deserved nominations for Editing, Cinematography, and Director at a minimum.

“The Substance”

Nomination(s): Best Picture, Best Actress (Demi Moore), Best Director (Coralie Fargeat), Best Original Screenplay, Best Makeup and Hairstyling

Demi Moore plays Elizabeth, a former Oscar winner and current fitness guru in the mold of Jane Fonda who turns to a mysterious substance that promises to keep her fading figure and fleeting fame alive for decades. The results of Elizabeth’s quest to vanquish Father Time are both ludicrous and frequently grotesque. But in a world where people die from Brazilian butt lifts and a reality show about botched plastic surgery has aired for eight seasons and counting, “The Substance” is closer to reality than some would like to admit.

“Wicked”

Nomination(s): Best Picture, Best Actress (Cynthia Erivo), Best Supporting Actress (Ariana Grande), Best Costume Design, Best Film Editing, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Best Score, Best Production Design, Best Sound, Best Visual Effects

The first thing to know about director Jon M. Chu’s movie adaptation of Stephen Schwartz’s wildly successful musical is that the stage production’s soul remains firmly intact. Ariana Grande, who began her child acting career on Broadway before moving to Nickelodeon and pop music stardom, is perfectly cast as Glinda the Good Witch, who tells us the tale of how Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) eventually became the wicked witch that Munchkinland fears.

How to watch: “Wicked” is available to rent on several on-demand platforms, and will begin streaming on Peacock March 21.
