While the Northeast has had cold and continuous snow, western states are experiencing record warmth and low snow totals this season. But who got the most snow in the land? It looks like Maine is the winner this winter, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

Beating out snowy Boston (coming in at 105.7 inches), Bangor Maine received 121 inches –10 feet of snow — so far. And the following Maine ski areas that begin with the letter “S” (as in snow) received even more: Sugarloaf, Sunday River, Saddleback, and Shawnee Peak.

Saddleback has received 179 inches. Julie Parisien, a Maine native and Olympic and World Cup Skier said, “Maine has it over all of the ski mountains out West this year. I’ve been skiing all over the world and this year, Saddleback in Rangeley, has conditions that you dream about. It’s a perfect year for New England skiers to enjoy their own back yards.”

Worcester came in second with 115.6 inches. Meanwhile Salt Lake City Utah has recorded the warmest winter since 1874 and the least amount of snow.
