Bode Miller’s first race in nearly a year was a memorable one.

The New Hampshire native and six-time Olympic ski medalist crashed halfway through a run in the super-G on the Birds of Prey course at Beaver Creek, Colo. during the World Championships on Thursday. Miller suffeed a gruesome cut on his right leg, but still managed to walk off the course under his own power.

Skiing analyst Brian Stemmie showed off the damage.

Miller’s early times showed that he was in the lead prior to the crash. The 37-year-old native of Franconia had back surgery last November. He most recently won the gold medal in the super G last February during the Sochi Olympics.

Here’s Miller’s full run:

Austria’s Hannes Reichelt won the race with a time of 1:15.68. Ted Ligety was the top American, finishing ninth.
