Tweak Your Ski Technique in 2 Minutes

By Heather Burke, Boston.com Ski Correspondent

Even with the title “Ski Guru,” I don’t give ski technique advice. I have four decades of skiing experience, pre-dating high-speed lifts and snowboards. I remember when skis weren’t shaped, but tight stretch pants were. But I don’t critique others, and I seek outside counsel for my own skiing. I don’t mean the unsolicited comments, “bring that uphill hand forward Heather,” or “stop stemming, you’re on shaped skis girl.”

Instead, I have my own ski guru. Meet Josh Foster. He is Level 4 – the ultimate in ski instruction, but he doesn’t have the ski-pole-up-your-butt attitude, or robotic technique. His skiing style is fluid, actually pretty (for a guy). Confession, Josh doesn’t even know me, but he is in my head and has helped my skiing immensely. I like his Canadian accent too, eh?! His ski tips are free, online, and don’t come with ego or long explanations. Josh has the gift of giving quick, salient ski instruction with an on-snow demo as well as helpful tweaks to your technique in just two minutes.

Here’s one of Josh’s Ski Tips on “How to capture the energy from your skis” and rip with your hips from snowy Big White Ski Resort in Canada. I will see you on the slopes here in New England.
