Lindsey Vonn is back on the podium. At this weekend’s Lake Louise World Cup Downhill, the US women’s team swept, with Lindsey Vonn taking first by a huge margin, and Stacey Cook and Julia Mancuso placing second and third. This is the first time Americans have swept the top three in an Alpine World Cup event. For Lindsey Vonn, the success was extra sweet because it was her 60th World Cup win and a serious comeback following two major knee surgeries and extensive rehab the past two seasons. Vonn has been nicknamed The Comeback Queen and Lake Louise has been dubbed Lake Lindsey due to Vonn’s success here – 15 of her wins have been at Lake Louise. Of mention, Lauren Ross, another US racer, finished sixth, so there were an historic four US women in the top 10.

Meanwhile, the US men’s alpine team raced well at Beaver Creek, Colorado, at the Audi FIS Ski World Cup. Ted Ligety won Giant Slalom for his fifth consecutive year here. In Downhill, Steven Nyman took third and Travis Ganong was fifth on the formidable Birds of Prey course. These are impressive results, especially given that Ligety is fresh off of surgery on his fractured left wrist.
