Fulfill Your Ski Bucket List with a Boston Ski and Sports Club Trip This Winter
Here’s a ski bucket list for you:
– Cervinia in Italy and Zermatt in Switzerland
– The Jungfrau Region of Switzerland
– Steamboat in Colorado
– Snowbird in Utah
– Mt Bachelor in Oregon
– Lake Louise in Banff, Canada
That would be a dreamy downhill season. Why not add in New Year’s Eve in Quebec City, with skiing along the St Lawrence Seaway at Le Massif and Mont Sainte Anne? Sounds cool, right?! This is not just my fantasy ski trip list, it happens to be the Boston Ski and Sports Club (BSSC) trip line-up this winter.

Imagine skiing in the shadows of the Matterhorn. January 23-Feb 1 BSSC takes you to Cervinia to ski Zermatt. Staying on the southern, sunny side in Italy, you can ski across the glacier to Zermatt Switzerland and return to Italy for après ski and dinner. This Italian Swiss Alps trip includes airfare, ground transport, 4-star lodging, breakfast and dinner, for $2,049, add $350 for your 6-day ski ticket. Having skied Zermatt and Cervinia myself, this trip looks epic, skiing over 7,000’ vertical on thousands of acres of terrain, hundreds of miles of groomed runs plus endless off-piste, with fondue and scenery and to die for (just ask all the hikers who attempt to summit the 14,692’ Matterhorn).

Another outstanding Alps trip is Grindelwald, also known as the Jungfrau Region of Switzerland. In this highly scenic high alpine, you ski amid the 13,000’ Monch, Eiger and Jungfrau amid three interconnected ski resorts – 44 lifts and over 200 kilometers of ski trails. At Murren, you can ski the James Bond ski run from the summit of the Piz Gloria, after enjoying a panoramic lunch rotating 360-degrees at 9,744.’ Wengen is home to the longest World Cup Downhill – the Lauberhorn – ski it like Bode Miller “for fun.” During this Swiss Alps trip Jan. 30 – Feb. 7, you lodge in the ski village of Grindelwald, with airfare, bus, breakfast and dinner included at $1849 (add $350 for ski tickets).

For ski trips stateside, The Boston Ski and Sports Club is going to Steamboat Colorado and Snowbird Utah in February, two great Rocky mountain resorts. Steamboat is the home of Champagne powder, really fun tree skiing, cruisers, and a cool cowboy town. Snowbird gets tons of snow too, with an 11,000’ summit and 2,500 acres of skiing, plus access to Alta and another 2,200, (no snowboarders across the Alta border) you will see why this Utah ski resort tops many skiers’ lists.

The biggest and most beautiful ski resort in the Canadian Rockies, Lake Louise in Banff, is on BSSC’s hit list for early March. For $1649, this Lake Louise ski trip includes airfare, 7 nights lodging in Banff, and 5 days of ski tickets at Lake Louise, Sunshine, and Norquay — so you can ski all three. Boston Ski Club is also making a trip to Red Mountain and Whitewater in British Columbia, I have not skied these two yet…perhaps I should join the ski club’s March 11 trip to these Powder Highway ski areas.

Finally, Mt Bachelor in March will provide trip goers with big mountain skiing in all directions of this conical 9,065’ peak in the morning with the options of biking, golf, or beer tasting in the hoppy town of Bend après ski. This Oregon ski offering is $1699, which includes airfare, skiing, and seven nights of lodging from March 18-25.
What’s special about these club-organized trips, besides the great group price, is the planning is done for you. You just show up and ski (and après ski) with fun like-minded friends from home. These amazing alpine trips are in addition to all the regular jaunts the BSSC makes to New England resorts like Jay Peak Thanksgiving weekend, Sunday River and Sugarloaf in December and January, and Killington, Loon, and Stowe as well.
The BSSC started in 1967, and now has over 45,000 active members in the Boston area, participating in various sports and social events, adventure travel, and ski trips.
If you haven’t planned your alpine assault for the winter, join the Boston Ski and Sports Club and get to work on that ski bucket list.
