That’s a wrap.

While you were mowing your lawn this weekend, or riding your bike, intrepid skiers were mashing the moguls and riding the Superstar quad for one last spring fling. Killington ended their ski season Sunday May 18, their 199th ski day for 2013-14. The Beast of the East earned its bragging rights with the longest ski season in the East, first to open in October and last to close in May just like the previous year. Last May, Killington kept spinning the Superstar quad til Memorial Day, that’s not happening this year.

It was a super cold and snowy winter for much of the North East. Boston exceeded its normal snowfall of 40 inches by 18 for big snow banks and almost 5 feet of snow total. Jay Peak reported 318 inches of snow this season, versus 362 the previous season.

The Weather Channel exhausted its A-Z snowstorm names, Zephyr dumped 43 inches of snow in Colorado May 10-13. Still skiing out west is Arapahoe Basin in Colorado, Mt Bachelor and Mt Hood in Oregon, Mammoth in California, and Snowbird Utah.

It was a big winter for snow sports enthusiasts, with the aforementioned serious snow, and a significant medal haul at Sochi’s Winter Olympics with 17 of the 28 U.S. medals won in skiing and snowboarding, including 8 of our 9 Gold medals.

Here in New England, Stowe won our Boston.com skiing showdown beating out Jay Peak with over 24,000 votes cast. Cannon and Sugarbush also made the final four. Thanks to all you zealous skiers and snowboarders for playing.

Pack your ski and snowboard gear away clean and dry, so you are ready to fly next October.
