Thanksgiving dinner and more in the mountains

Whether you’re hoping to burn off a few Thanksgiving calories, or simply escape the in-laws for a few hours, local ski resorts are celebrating the holiday in a number of ways.

Wildcat Mountain will be closed for skiing and riding on Thursday, but will host a jib session at the base of the mountain on Friday. Tickets for the session (separate from regular lift tickets) can be obtained with a donation of three canned goods, or $3.

In Vermont, Okemo Mountain Resort will host a Thanksgiving buffet dinner at Coleman Brook Tavern from 3-8 p.m., featuring locally-raised, farm-fresh turkey. On Friday, the Okemo Trot It Off 5K takes place. Registration fee is $25 in advance, $30 the day of the race. A kids fun race for children 12 and under will also take place at 9:15 a.m, ($10 in advance, $15 day of).

Sugarbush will also host a Thanksgiving buffet at Timbers Restaurant on Thursday from 1-8 p.m., with a menu that includes turkey, salmon, and pumpkin pie ($24.95 adults, $12.95 children 12 and under). At Jay Peak, dinner at Alice’s Table ($25, $15) and the Foundry will provide two separate menus. Reservations are recommended for all dining options.

Stratton Mountain Resort hosts its annual “Gobble Gobble Wobble 5K” on Nov. 28. with a first-place prize of $600 on the line over five age brackets. Pre-registration is $35, $50 day of race. On Saturday, Mount Snow has a “Turkey Hangover Hill Climb,” a fun race up the mountain with prizes for the top finishers and best costumes.

In Maine, Sunday River will celebrate with its annual demo days, and dinner at the Grand Summit Hotel from 3-9 p.m. ($29 adults, $14 children 12 and under). There will also be a fireworks display Saturday night. Sugarloaf will host dinner at the Shipyard Brew Haus ($26 adults, $18 children). Bring a toy worth at least $5 to donate to the Kingfield Giving Tree for Local Children*, and receive the buffet dinner for half price.
