Skiing world mourns loss of CR Johnson
The skiing community was hit hard yesterday when it discovered that free skiing legend CR Johnson died during an accident at Squaw Valley. He was 26.
Johnson was skiing at the Lake Tahoe area, when, according to reports, he caught an edge on exposed rocks while entering the Light Towers area. He hit his head and neck on more rocks upon landing.
Freeskiing Magazine has posted a wide-ranging retrospective on the man’s life and skiing career at its website, including an eulogy by publisher Christopher Jerad. It’s must-reading for Johnson fans.
Fellow Squaw skier, U.S. Olympian Julia Mancuso, tweeted this morning that her final Olympic race in today’s slalom, would be dedicated to her late friend.
