Questions1. Where is this building?
2. Why is it important?

I put these questions and picture (below) up on the message boards a while ago…

When you think about how far snowboarding has come in the last 30 years it really is amazing. The snowsports industry as a whole has changed as a result.
Answers
1. This building in on Londonderry, VT (Zip 05148) It is located in the center of town right before the hard uphill left on 100N.
2. This building was the Burton Snowboard factory.

Snowboarding has come a long way since those days.
S.G. afterthought to learn from: If I knew the place was for rent I might have attempted to procure it as lodging for the US Open. The potential there could be unlimited.

The Report: This was so long ago that conditions are not relevant, but it is fair to say that — it was what Stratton, VT is the majority of the season. Lots of cultivated snow that has been cared for with the best money can buy. Read – good snow surfaces on groomed trials.
The ski slopes have what the S.G. like to call the “Super Trial” or Standard if you are looking at a map. The thing is a meadow. It is not too steep. Steep enough to go fast. A nice finish entailing a blind pitch before you needs to dump speeds.
Supah Trail: When it is not crowded = Very fun skiing.
Standard in upper right of this photo form the main base area. Big Air hits in the foreground.

This is a decent press release from Stratton

Stratton Mountain Extends Season in Light of Kyphophobia Diagnosis
Stratton Mountain, VT- After months of hospital visits, psychiatric evaluations and invasive testing, specialists have finally come up with a diagnosis for Stratton Mountain; Kyphophobia. It is agreed by leaders in the psychiatric field that the mountain does in fact suffer from the condition of being afraid to stop. To help alleviate the mountain’s trepidation about the end of the ski season, Stratton President and COO, Sky Foulkes, has decided to keep the mountain open for an additional weekend to help wean her off of the ski season and acclimatize her to the impending and no less exciting spring and summer seasons.
On Saturday April 19 and Sunday April 20, Stratton management is inviting Thaasophobic (those with a fear of getting bored) members of the public to come to the mountain and gently bid the mountain not a “farewell” but a “see you soon!” as we usher in the new season. “We need to band together and remind the mountain that the ski season is not ending as much as taking a short break until November” commented Public Relations Director Myra Foster, “she really is looking forward to the changing seasons but sometimes needs to be reminded about the resort’s continuity. Knowing her, we’ll be dealing with the same situation come the end of the fall.” Since the ski season extension is more about appreciating the mountain after a great season and celebrating all of the people who made that possible, Stratton has decided to reduce ticket prices to $30 over the weekend and to donate 50% of all revenue to The Stratton Foundation and local youth athletic programs! This is definitely difficult on the ears of local Euphobes (those with a fear of hearing good news); however, it is commonly felt throughout the Stratton community that most of the mountain’s loyal clientele do not fall into this category.
When asked directly about the diagnosis and season extension announcement, Stratton Mountain had this to say:
I have unknowingly suffered from this condition for a couple of years now but was always able to control my apprehension. Because of all the snow that has fallen on me, it has been very hard to think about saying goodbye to this particular season. Once April rolled around and continued to precipitate snow and fantastic weather, I started to become uncontrollably afraid and have not been able to sleep for the past week. I didn’t even know that a fear of stopping existed but it’s nice to know that there are others out there who share my illness. An extra weekend will really be a good thing for everyone.
Stratton Mountain will hold its Spring Fling festivities the weekend of April 12 and 13 before taking a brief rest during the week and reopening for a final hoorah on the 19th. Hedonophobics (those who fear pleasure) are encouraged to stay home because though we know it is not your fault, Stratton is not the place for you. If you or a loved one believe you suffer from such a condition, we encourage you to visit Stratton.com or call 1. 800. STRATTON for a free consultation.

Think corn snow,
