Quick Conditions
Just in from a long three-day weekend of skiing in northern Vermont.
The skiing is still very good and the mountains are holding a lot of snow. Even better news is that the forecast is calling for new snowfall this week. There is still a ton of snow on the ground up there. All new accumulations will freshen things up considerably.
The Waterfall at Stowe gets a coat of green every Saint Patrick’s Day.
I will be honest. I think I hit every type of snow surface that is a reporting option on Snow Country. Best description = Variable. Nevertheless, there were some good sections at both Stowe (Sat & Mon) and Mad River Glen (Sun). As a skier, one just had to pay attention and really execute turns. Missing just a little could mean slipping on ice. The full weekend report is coming tonight…

• 3/17/2008 – Still see things improving second half of March for parts of New England
Most pm models today are offering hope for the N. Greens, Adirondacks much of N/C Whites to Sugarloaf and Sunday River by Thursday pm into Friday am. After rains and mixed precip again into Thursday, look for 6-12″ of snow from Stowe, Whiteface, Jay Peak, possibly Bretton Woods, Wildcat, Attiash Mountain to Sugarloaf by later Thursday or very early Friday.
An upper level low will bring enough cold air in and stall to the north of Maine for 12-24 hours later Thursday to allow some fresh powder to fall. Even Sugarbush, Killington and the central Whites will see at least 3-6″ from this system with the greatest snows further north. A few areas may get a foot + by Thursday night.
An overall colder weather regime is likely for the Northeast with the NAO index turning negative, next week and into late month with chances for at least one important storm between the 25th-28th across New England with improving late March conditions.
