Wednesday Weather Update = SNOW!
Wow! Out of nowhere, snow rules the forecast again for New England!
Only a few days ago I was sweating the next few weeks of the ski season as most long range outlooks were calling for warmer then average temperatures and precipitation that was not exactly frozen. Honestly, I feared the worst for the month of February and possibly beyond.
As of tonight, things have done a complete 180º. Unfortunately areas to the south did not fair so well today, but those further north picked up some invaluable new snow totals.

There is no doubt in my mind that this weekend is going to be a great one to be on the slopes.
Some of the big winners I spotted on Snow Country this evening (2/6/08) are listed out below.
Pick your poison and plan your weekend ski trip. Conditions are very good!
Maine is back in business!
Saddleback – At 8:05 am EST this morning, they were reporting 5 inches in the last 48 hours. The mountain is only a couple trails shy of 100% skiing and riding on 58/60 trails. I would bet they grabbed another few inches today…
Shawnee Peak – This afternoon at 3:00 pm their report stated 10 inches in the last two days.
Sugarloaf – The monster of a mountain jumped into the mix with a two-day total of 9 inches at 1:44 pm EST. Their trail count is climbing and with a little luck, the storm this weekend may push them to 100% of their terrain.
Sunday River – They are just killing it with a foot a fresh Pow Pow on the slopes at 10:50 am EST in a 48-hour period. Only 2 trails shy of all 131 options. Skiing and riding on a primary surface of powder.
New Hampshire gets a big shoot in the arm for areas further to the north!
Attitash – Getting the party started with 8 nice inches of new snow in a 48 hour period as of 10:15 am EST. All of their trails are open.
Bretton Woods – Comes a knocking with a huge report of 14 inches in a 48 hour haul as of 2:30 pm EST. Only 3 trails shy of 100% which will probably change by this weekend. A great bet if you are undecided!
Cannon – This mountain is an S.G. personally favorite. Today at 2:26 pm EST they reported 6-7 new inches of snow on top of 5 from yesterday. Skiing and riding a primary surface of Powder. 57 of 60 trails are open.
Loon – Has all 47 of their slope open for business and they have picked up 9 inches of new snowfall in a 48-hour window as of 2:35 pm this afternoon.
Wildcat – At 7:21 pm EST they are reporting a solid 7 inches in each of the last two days. They are skiing and riding on powder! Only 2 trails short of being 100% open. They will see more snow before the weekend…
Vermont’s northern mountains are not green now!
Burke – At 2:31 pm EST, they have reported a 48 hour total of 9 inches. Skiing on surfaces of Powder with all their trails and lifts open.
Killington – At 4:03 pm EST, they have a 2 day tally of 7 new inches. 174 trail and 19 lifts (and those numbers will spike on the weekend).
Mad River Glen – The BIG winner so far! At 3:00 pm EST today, they chimed in with 8-10 fresh inches of Powder! Yesterday the scored 4-6 additional inches and they are currently skiing on 100% of their legendary terrain.
Smugglers’ Notch – Reporting a two day total of a Foot of new snow at 4 o’clock this afternoon. Skiing powder and approaching full terrain with 73 or 7 trails now open.
Stowe – Right over the ridge from the area above validates the claims with a report of 5-6 inches today on the mountain by 2:10 pm EST and an additional 4-5 inches that fell yesterday. Only 1 trail short of 100% (wondering which one that could be?)
Sugarbush – Also sitting above the Mad River Valley they ran a very close second for the best of the day. At 3:13 pm EST, they reported a 48-hour total of 13 new inches of Powder on 100% percent of the resorts terrain.
Oh yeah, almost forgot to mention, more snow is in the forecast for this weekend. Looks like a Sunday event now. Light fluffy snows as cold air settles back into the region.

We earned this after the bust of a storm that rolled through last weekend. Enjoy it!
