The Saint Valentine Day Snow Storm
Update:
Morning of 2/14/07
It looks like this storm is moving north on us. I was really hoping for the brunt of it to hit southern Vermont (for completely selfish reasons). As of this morning it looks like your Best Bet for Deep Pow Pow is going to be in Northern ME, VT and NH.
Yardstick! Hit this link for new snow totals as they are reported. LINK
Travel is extremely dangerous today! Roads will be closed. If you are not there already wait until tomorrow. And take it slow.
It is still probable that some mountains could see 4 feet before all of this is said and done Friday Morning.
Thought: I should have never left Sugarloaf on Monday. They are going to get whacked with the yardstick hard up there. The best skiing the mountain has seen in years. The Loaf is most certainly set up and waiting for this snow. They have done an exceptional job with the manmade stuff and now is when it pays off…
The snow/sleet/freezing rain line is still staying in MA south of the VT and NH boarders. This system is still packing a lot of punch. Stay tuned to the weatherman. Things can change fast…

the sign says it all…snowiest month #1 at Sugarloaf is March
It only took until mid February, but we finally have a serious snow storm to talk about!
It was Saturday that I first started hearing about this storm—the Valentine’s Day blizzard of 2007—on the television. Ever since then the system has been gaining steam and more minutes of press. I was up in Sugarloaf, ME and it was skiing great, but I will have more on this past weekend later.
The Storm: The snow should start flying as early as Tuesday evening in New England. Wednesday should bring blizzard conditions in the afternoon and then things will eventually taper off Thursday night in the mountains.
Best day to ski: Friday or Saturday depending on how the winds are as the lows move away from us. Right now, I think Friday is the pick for pure powder enthusiasts. This whole weekend will be unbelievable though. Tips Up!
Conditions: The timing could not be better. We have a holiday weekend on tap and the resorts have been making as much snow as possible in the past month. This dump combined with the series of small squalls most area have been getting and people everywhere up north are jumping on their couches.
The Spring: Skiing should stay very good for quiet some time to come. I do not want to get greedy or anything, but if we can get a couple of big snow events in the next several weeks we are going to have a Fantastic spring season. March, loaded with events and late afternoon sunshine, is the best month to ski and ride in New England!
this is Andrew having a great time in denim at Sugarlaof, I warned him that he should get some powder pants for next weekend…
We are talking about widespread conservative estimates of 2+ Feet in the mountains! Some will see THREE FEET!
Q: Do you know what that means?
A: Quite a few things actually.
1. If you have not made plans for Presidents day weekend to head north you have better get a move on it…
2. New England resorts will all be rolling with 100% of their terrain open and skiing powder.
3. Following up a month of cold air, and no rain, this storm will bring the best skiing New England has seen in years.
4. Get a group together now, use a vacation day Friday; you should have a few in the bank.
5. The resorts will be busy and that is a good thing, have fun and play safe.
Keep and eye on the radar loops and watch this storm unfold. It is going to be tough not to pay attention to it if you live in New England.
Stay tuned for more updates on the Message Board and this link should let you know what is happening at your favorite resort. LINK
Thank Goodness!
I am really fired up for this one.
