Skiing

Giddy Up Time!

We are looking at some really stellah conditions for the first time in a long time here in New England.

I suggest that every one of you take advantage of them. I have been typing for years now about how you must be ready and willing to make the move if skiing and riding success is what you want.

Now is the time to go, no excuses.

Some random thoughts for Friday.
Mount Snow last weekend. Yes, that is where I was. Even after telling the tale on the message board of how route 2 has to be one of the worst ski drives ever I decided to prove it. So, I climbed into a car (friend was driving) and we made our way slowly west along with thousands of others on their Friday night commute. The only saving grace was that I know of a top secret super short cut that I refer to as the “Juggle Route.”
Tangent: The said time saver is not so much top secret, but it will knock a good 15 minutes off your travel time to Mount Snow from 91N or 2W.
I describe any “Jungle Route” as poorly marked back roads and they must go through rural towns which are usually shut down—sands the local bar—by nine o’clock at night.
Dude – why does my Benz sound funny?

In the First lift line: My ski compadre for the day turns to me and says, “I only got one in me.” Yes, we had not even gotten on the chair yet. I got chuckle out of that, but he was serious. That was it. One and done.
It was cold out there on Saturday. No doubt about it, but not as frigid as Boston right now. Today may set a record for the lowest high temperature ever (the record is 16 degrees). Even that is not even close to the coldest of cold which I have ever dealt with. How I determine when it is dangerously cold is when I have to lube up any exposed skin with Vaseline (it works) to seal things up.
Nonetheless the conditions were fantastic. The area was making snow like crazy. Good snow. You could really open up the throttle on the trails. Conditions LINK
That said all of the New England resorts have been online (snowmaking wise) for the better part of the last ten days and conditions, plus trail counts, are showing the results. Yesterday and today the frigid cold temps and wind have actually given the snowmakers a break. It can get to the point which it is to cold to make snow, no lie. This should provide ample opportunities for the Snow Cats to get out there and groom it up to perfection for this weekend.

This weekend’s weather looks great! You could not ask for better to go skiing with. The artic blast from today will shove off and temps should be in the 20’s around most mountains for Saturday and Sunday. There is also a chance of snow both days for most parts of New England.
Ski Now and do not stop: We are experiencing the best conditions do far this season so get out there and take advantage of them.

See you in the hill this weekend. Getting sucked into passing on the slopes is NOT a very good idea. Just do it. Our time is now and things are only getting better in the days and weeks ahead.
