Skiing

The Move: Ski Colorado

Two Saturdays ago I was rolling with all the windows down and hating the 70 degree weather. A friend I was with planted the seed.

“Why are you not in CO? They got dumped.”

Good Point.

Take Action: Last Tuesday I got online and found a last minute deal on Jet Blue to get me to Denver and back (direct flights) for short money ($330). I made the move and scrambled to pull a last minute trip together.

Things could not be better out here. CO has the best skiing in the USA right now. Locals think it is cold, but for a New England resident the weather on the mountain has been a pleasant change from the conditions back home. Everything is skiing at 100%. Sunny skies make the single digits on the thermometers tolerable. The snow (which is in surplus) is holding up well with the cold air.

I made turns at Winter Park and Breckenridge. This afternoon I am hitting Arapahoe Basin before leaving Summit County and flying back to reality. It has been a surreal experience at a time when the Ski Guru needed to get out. Things are in check again as the itch for some good skiing has been cured.
Much more on the last minute trip (and why you should make one happen) later, there is still skiing to be had…
