Skiing

Technical Difficulties

Alright, last season was not awesome. Two seasons ago we had some moments, but generally suffered here in New England. The three seasons prior to those were nothing special either. BUT at least for all five of those we had something to work with.

This is becoming unbearable. It is like a bad dream that you cannot wake up from. Hear we are, mid December, and we have not had a storm to speak of. Even worse – New England has not even gotten hit with any prolonged periods of cold air. For a region that came to terms with the fact that our natural snowfall has and will continue to deteriorate – this weather is unprecedented.
Does my tone sound frustrated? Well it should, this season has been absolutely disappointing thus far!

Okay – enough negativity for a Monday morning. On the bright side it looks like the North Country should see cold enough temperatures (at least at night) to allow for snowmaking. I am sure that the resorts are doing everything humanly possible to preserve what snow they have already made and deliver the best skiing possible.
The snow guns are blasting whenever temps allow.

Some of these minor systems that are rolling through New England this week should bring natural snow, especially Friday’s. Anything will be good as we are only moments away from the first official day of winter.
What is on the S.G. Christmas List – SNOW!
Switching it Up:
I have decided to invoke a new positive approach. I am just going to start planning trips. Usually, I like to watch and see how conditions are shaping up and make a game time decision on destinations. It is a good strategy, but one that may not yield much skiing, under the current circumstances.
I have penciled some weekends in January onto the calendar. The 20th I am locked and loaded for a trip to Mount Snow with a large group of friends and am looking forward to it. Should be fun, and by then I am confident we will have gotten through this spell.

I suggest you all do the same. It is still so early in the duration of the season. Keep the faith and we shall be rewarded.
Here is a more positive spin I saw online. Check out this season long outlook on the Mad River Glen website. LINK
Keep an eye on Snow Country and we should see trail counts improving.
Being optimistic,
