Season Fashion Update

People visit ski areas to relax and have fun. A side benefit is the fashion show that ensues. Some dress to stay warm, others to stay dry. Rock the denim or the Gore Tex. Day Glo is completely legit. Once piece – Do It if you own one. Wearing a cape = legendary!

Have you seen the outfits the children of Burton ride nowadays? The look like a cross between the customs from the planet Hoth (Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back) and Original Jams.

Anyway, the snowboarders and anyone else out there can wear whatever they want. I actually encourage it, being on the mountain provides an atmosphere of freedom and expression. If that has something to do with how you want to dress, go for it.
Witnessing people having a good time, whether or not you would dress like them, is always uplifting at ski areas.

There seems to be a couple trends that have gained speed this year. One is an entirely new product that has just really begun to infiltrate the ski industry. The other has been there and already done it. With that said the following comments are strictly opinion. If you are one of these folks you’re fine, but people (like me) will snicker in the lift lines and lodge…you have been warned.
1. Under Armour
Kills me…come on people. You know who you are, we have all seen you. Why are you hanging out in the lodge and at the bars with this stuff on? Does wearing it signify you have a license to act foolish? Do you see anyone else with just their long johns on?
If yes, they probably lost a bet.
2. Wearing Scarves
The first time I took note of this was last season at Stratton. Everyone on the ski patrol was wearing a scarf, or so it seemed. Yes, for the visual, some even had the Burberry brand, cashmere no doubt. Realizing that half of them were probably skiing when scarfs were popular, I let it slide. But scarves are back. I have seen them on all type of skier this season; the good, the bad and the ugly. I have yet to see a snowboarder with a scarf on, but the time will come. Why not scarf it? To Euro (and urban) for New England skiing.
Be careful on the lifts. Always check for loose clothing and equipment.
If any of your friends are embracing one of these ‘newer’ styles this season please tell them to knock it off. They can visit eBay and buy some real cool gear with short $$$…
I have been using my hood a little more often lately. It is great against snow, wind and cold. Those are my two cents.
